Why did I receive a 1099-K from Dwolla?
Summary
You may have received a Form 1099-K based on your receipt of payments through one or more of Dwolla’s Clients that uses the Dwolla Platform to facilitate payments. Dwolla is required to issue 1099-K forms to all users in the Dwolla Network (meaning our clients and their end users) whose received payments for goods and services exceed certain federal or state reporting thresholds.
For the 2025 tax year, the federal reporting threshold is $20,000 in payment(s) with 200 transactions. Many states also require that we file 1099-Ks with the state taxing authorities. Each state sets its own reporting threshold.
Both the federal and state 1099-Ks are information returns and the gross payments reported on Form 1099-K do not necessarily represent reportable income. The form should be used in conjunction with other tax records (bank statements, invoices, etc.) to determine your or your end users’ taxable income.
