Why are my end users’ documents failing verification?

**Summary**  
There are several reasons a document may be failing automatic verification, including date-of-birth or name mismatch, but there may also be an issue with the document itself.

Here are some best practices to keep in mind for document verification:

- **When Creating a Personal Verified Customer (VCR)**  
  Best practices to reduce the chances of a Photo ID being rejected:  
  - All 4 Edges of the document should be visible  
  - Use a dark/high contrast background  
  - At least 90% of the image should be the document  
  - Should be at least 300dpi  
  - Capture image from directly above the document  
  - Make sure that the image is properly aligned, not rotated, tilted or skewed  
  - Avoid using flash to reduce glare  
  - No black and white documents  
  - No expired IDs

- **When Creating a Business Verified Customer (BVCR)**  
  - Registered name field should have the name as it is registered with the Secretary of State.  
  - Preferred name field should only be used if the business has registered a fictitious name (or a “doing business as” (“dba”) name) for its business and can produce a state or federal document showing it is tied to the registered name.  
    - Business documents (documentType other):  
      - EIN documentation (IRS-issued SS4 confirmation letter)  
      - Filed and stamped Articles of Organization or Incorporation  
      - Sales/Use Tax License  
      - Fictitious Business Name Statement/Certificate of Assumed Name (only for Preferred Names)  
      - Business License  
      - Sales/Use Tax License  
      - Registration of Trade Name  
      - Business License  
      - Certificate of Good Standing
