What is an ACH reversal, and when can it be attempted?
Summary
An ACH reversal is a credit or debit entry that reverses an erroneous ACH transaction. Any requests for reversals must be completed within 5 banking days following the settlement date of the incorrect entry.
In order to request a reversal, the ACH transaction must have met one of the following criteria:
- The transfer is a duplicate of an entry previously initiated by the Originator.
- Payment to or from a Receiver that’s different than the Receiver intended.
- Payment in an amount different than intended by the Originator.
- Orders payment of a debit entry on a date earlier than the Receiver intended to be debited by the Originator, or a payment of a credit entry on a date later than the Receiver was intended to be credited by the Originator.
Note: There is no guarantee that the funds will be returned, as there is a possibility that the funds have already been withdrawn. You may also be required to notify the receiver of the request for reversal and the reason for such request.
In order to request an ACH reversal, please speak to your Customer Excellence Manager or email support@dwolla.com with the transaction ID and the reason the reversal is being requested.
