### Information

**Title**
If an ACH transaction is marked as ‘processed,’ can that status change?

**Summary**
There are four main transaction statuses within the Dwolla Platform: **`pending,` `processed,` `canceled`** and **`failed.`**

A ‘pending’ status indicates that a transaction has been initiated.

A ‘processed’ status indicates that a transfer has completed.

A ‘canceled’ status indicates that a given transfer was canceled and was stopped from exporting within the Dwolla Network.

A ‘failed’ status indicates that the RDFI (Receiving Depository Financial Institution, or the end user’s financial institution) has issued a return code on a transaction to Dwolla, and the transaction would then be marked as `failed.`

A return code issued on an ACH transfer can cause the status of a transaction to change from ‘processed’ to ‘failed’ if the return occurs post-settlement. This change of a transaction status from `processed` to `failed` is most commonly seen with [unauthorized return codes](/content/updates/understanding-ach-returns-process/index.html), such as R05, R07, R10 and R11. These unauthorized return codes can be issued up to 60 days after a transaction has been initiated. If a return code is received from the RDFI after a transfer has been marked as ‘processed,’ the transfer will be updated in the Dwolla Dashboard to a ‘failed’ status. A 'processed' transaction can not be cancelled.
