If a transaction is marked as processed, can that status change?
Summary
There are four main transaction statuses within the Dwolla platform:
- Pending - a transaction has been initiated and will be transmitted to its destination;
- Processed - a transaction has successfully completed;
- Canceled - a transaction has been canceled by you or the end user and did not export; and
- Failed - a transaction has encountered a return code from the receiving user’s financial institution.
A return code issued on a transfer can update a processed transfer to failed if the return occurs post-settlement. For this reason, processed is not a terminal state within the Dwolla Network. This change of a transaction status from processed to failed is most commonly seen with unauthorized return codes, such as R05, R07, R10 and R29 return codes. These unauthorized return codes can be issued up to 60 days after a transaction has been initiated. If a return code is received on a given transfer after it has been marked as processed, the Dwolla system will fail the transfer immediately upon receiving the return code from the RDFI and update the transfer to a status of failed.
